2010 was our second year at the University of Hertfordshire and after the success of last year's event expectations were high - we were not disappointed!
The various events including the evening BBQ and Gala Dinner ran smoothly with high levels of service from our hosts at Hertfordshire, but the biggest successes were the Symposium talks and the Exhibition. We had even more delegates than last year and lots of new faces too and we have had plenty of positive and useful feedback from those who attended. We feel that the way the Symposium has weathered these austere times indicates how important this event is to the traffic signals community.
The JCT Symposium is the only dedicated traffic signal event in the UK and we try to make it as useful to engineers as we can. It offers a range of innovative and interesting papers with broad coverage of the traffic signals industry, and it promotes discussion and debate backed up by a wealth of national and international expertise. Previous symposia have hosted presentations covering such topics as design, training, modelling, microsimulation, new technologies, asset management, environmental issues, legislation, good practice, safety, auditing, information management, bus priority and intelligent transport systems. Next year's symposium will be on the 21st and 22nd of September 2011 - don't forget to put the dates in your diary!
We weren't able to collect video footage from this years event but we still have lots of resources describing how the event went. If you are trying to remember a useful technique from one of the presentations or interested in attending the next Symposium and want to know more about whats involved, the following may be of use:
